An ambulance transporting the body of a patient from Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City was involved in a collision with a truck on the My Thuan Expressway, resulting in injuries to four people. The incident occurred around 5:20 AM on September 16, as the ambulance was heading towards An Giang.

The accident took place near Thai Hoa hamlet in My Loi commune, Dong Thap province, where the ambulance crashed into the rear of a truck traveling in the same direction. The impact severely damaged the front of the ambulance, shattering the windshield and scattering debris across the roadway.

Emergency services quickly transported the injured individuals to a hospital located more than 5 kilometers away. The crash led to significant traffic delays on the expressway, with congestion extending for approximately 5 kilometers. By 10 AM, traffic management teams were directing vehicles to exit onto National Highway 1 at the Nhii Quy junction to alleviate the backlog.

According to the expressway management unit, the section where the accident occurred is well-marked, with a smooth and flat road surface and no obstacles present. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Traffic Police Unit 7 and other relevant authorities.

The My Thuan Expressway spans 51.5 kilometers, featuring four lanes and a width of 16 meters, without continuous emergency lanes. This route connects the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway with the My Thuan 2 Bridge and has been operational since April 2022, allowing vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 90 km/h. Due to the narrow road, accidents or vehicle malfunctions can easily lead to prolonged traffic congestion. Plans are underway to expand the expressway to accommodate 6 to 8 lanes, enhancing connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces.
