A serious traffic accident occurred on August 16 on the Diễn Châu - Bãi Vọt expressway in Nghệ An, Vietnam, when a bus carrying approximately 40 passengers crashed into the rear of a container truck. The incident took place around 11 AM, as part of a larger convoy of 15 vehicles transporting over 600 people to Cửa Lò beach.

The impact was severe, causing the bus to shake violently, with its front end severely damaged and seats thrown about. Passengers were thrown from their seats, with some sustaining injuries as they were propelled forward. Reports indicate that individuals seated at the back were thrown towards the middle of the bus, suffering leg injuries, while others fell into the aisle, sustaining scrapes and bruises.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, where 20 injured passengers were transported to Hữu Nghị General Hospital and 115 General Hospital in Nghệ An for treatment. Among the injured, eight were reported to have severe injuries, with two in critical condition. The bus driver suffered multiple injuries, including a severed leg, and was taken into surgery at Hữu Nghị General Hospital.

At the accident site, the bus was left in ruins, with shattered glass and debris scattered across the roadway. The container truck also sustained damage to its rear. The collision caused significant traffic congestion on the expressway, stretching several kilometers in both directions. Traffic police worked alongside other authorities to redirect vehicles onto National Route 1 and manage the recovery of the damaged vehicles.

By 3 PM, the scene was cleared, and normal traffic flow on the expressway was restored. The Diễn Châu - Bãi Vọt expressway, which spans 49.3 kilometers and connects Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh, has been operational since June 29, featuring four lanes and a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h.
