Police Officer Shot by Dog Thieves in Can Tho

A police officer in Can Tho was injured after being shot in the chest by a group of dog thieves during a patrol operation. The incident took place in the early hours of August 8, when a police patrol team from An Thanh commune noticed suspicious activity involving a group of individuals riding two motorcycles and carrying large bags.

Upon being signaled to stop for a check, the group, led by Nguyen Tan Loi, refused to comply. Instead, they discarded the bags and sped away. During their escape, one of the suspects fired a homemade gun at the pursuing officers, hitting Lieutenant Tran Ngoc Loi in the right chest. Despite the injury, he was quickly taken to Can Tho Central General Hospital for emergency treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Following the incident, police apprehended Nguyen Tan Loi and another suspect, Nguyen Hoang My, later that evening. Two additional suspects, Le Minh Toan and Tran Phuc Hau, were also arrested shortly after. Authorities recovered four homemade guns used for dog theft, along with three dead dogs and other related evidence.

The leadership of Can Tho Police visited Lieutenant Tran Ngoc Loi in the hospital to check on his condition and offer support.
