Work begins on Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway

HCMC – Three Mekong Delta provinces and Can Tho City held simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies for four components of the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway this morning, June 17.

The ceremony for the expressway section in Chau Doc City, An Giang Province, was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

The Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway will span over 188 kilometers in the first phase, passing through the provinces of An Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta region.

The expressway is designed with four traffic lanes and a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour, which will be expanded to six traffic lanes in the second phase.

The project has a total investment of nearly VND44.7 trillion and is divided into four components.

The first component, which will connect Can Tho City and An Giang Province, spans over 57 kilometers with an investment of around VND13.4 trillion.

The second component is in Can Tho City, and stretches over 37 kilometers with an investment of over VND9.8 trillion.

The third component covers 37 kilometers in Hau Giang Province, and requires a total of over VND9.9 trillion.

The last component, costing around VND11.1 trillion, passes through Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces, with a length of 57 kilometers.

Key sections of the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway are expected to be completed by 2025 in the first phase to accommodate the high traffic volumes in the region.

The entire route is projected to be completed by 2026, with full operation of the project scheduled for 2027.
