A 63-year-old man tragically lost his life while pursuing two thieves who stole a gold necklace from his wife in Can Tho, Vietnam. The incident took place on July 7, 2026, when the couple was riding their motorcycle along Provincial Road 934.
According to initial reports, the suspects, identified as Thach Nhat Khai, 23, and Khưu Minh Tiến, 31, approached the couple on a motorcycle. Tiến reached out and snatched a 24K gold necklace, weighing approximately 11.25 grams, from the wife, L.T.L, before fleeing the scene.
In a desperate attempt to recover the stolen item, the husband, T.X, chased after the thieves. However, during the pursuit, the couple's motorcycle collided with the thieves' vehicle, causing them to fall onto the road. As Khai attempted to escape, he ran over a bystander, injuring them in the process.
While Tiến discarded the stolen necklace and fled, he was apprehended by local residents. Khai was later arrested that evening while trying to evade capture. Unfortunately, T.X sustained severe injuries from the accident and was rushed to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of July 9.
During police investigations, Tiến admitted that he and Khai had planned the robbery to fund their drug use. They had met earlier that day at a bus station in Can Tho before deciding to commit the crime.
This incident has raised concerns about public safety and the growing issue of theft in the area. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
