Man Arrested for Smuggling 102 kg of Fireworks in Vietnam

On August 2, authorities in Quang Tri Province reported the arrest of a man involved in the illegal transportation of fireworks. The individual, identified as 28-year-old P.K.V from Tan Lap commune, was caught after he crashed his motorcycle into a traffic police officer in an attempt to flee from a routine traffic stop.

The incident occurred late on August 1 when a patrol unit from the Dakrong Traffic Police Station received information about a suspicious motorcycle without a license plate heading towards Dong Ha. Upon signaling the rider to stop for inspection, P.K.V ignored the order and accelerated towards the police, leading to a chase.

Authorities successfully apprehended him at Km39+800 on National Highway 9, where they discovered six black bags on his motorcycle. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the bags contained a total of 54 boxes of fireworks, specifically 49 tubes each, amounting to 102 kg. The fireworks were identified as illegal imports from China.

All seized items are currently in the custody of law enforcement, who are continuing their investigation and processing of the case according to legal regulations. This incident highlights ongoing issues with illegal fireworks in Vietnam, especially as the country approaches festive seasons when such items are in higher demand.
