Driver Fined Up to 40 Million VND for Leaving Accident Scene

A driver in Hai Phong has been proposed a fine of up to 40 million VND for leaving the scene of a traffic accident. The incident took place on the evening of July 26, when the driver, operating a vehicle with a Hai Phong license plate, collided with a motorcycle while traveling from Kien Phong neighborhood to Hoang Mai neighborhood. The collision resulted in the motorcycle rider and two young passengers falling onto the road.

After the accident, the driver left the scene, prompting the Traffic Police Department to investigate the matter following reports received via their hotline. The police later summoned the driver for questioning. Fortunately, the accident did not result in any injuries, and property damage was minimal.

Authorities determined that the driver violated two traffic regulations: driving in the wrong lane and failing to maintain the accident scene. For the offense of driving in the wrong lane that caused the accident, the driver faces a fine of 20 to 22 million VND. Additionally, for leaving the accident scene without taking appropriate actions, the driver could be fined 16 to 18 million VND. The total potential fine could reach between 36 to 40 million VND. Furthermore, the driver will also have 10 points deducted from their driving license.

The Traffic Police emphasized that, according to the Road Traffic Safety Law, drivers involved in accidents must stop their vehicles, secure the scene, remain at the site to assist injured parties, and report to the appropriate authorities. If it is necessary to move the injured for medical assistance or to ensure traffic safety, drivers are allowed to leave the scene but must mark the location and protect the scene as much as possible before returning or reporting to the police as soon as possible.
