On August 17, 2026, two traffic accidents occurred on Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi, resulting in multiple damaged vehicles and a major disruption to traffic flow. The first incident involved a collision between two vehicles around 2 PM, which caused a Mazda CX-5 to overturn in the middle of the bridge. Shortly after, a second accident involving five cars exacerbated the traffic situation, leading to significant congestion on the road from Vo Chi Cong Street to Nhat Tan Bridge.
According to reports, by 4 PM, authorities were still managing traffic and handling the aftermath of the accidents. The front of a five-seat car was severely damaged after colliding head-on with the Mazda CX-5, which ended up flipped over, blocking the right lane of the bridge. This forced other vehicles to navigate through the remaining two lanes, resulting in a long traffic jam.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that the driver of the Mazda CX-5 was taken to Dong Anh General Hospital for treatment due to facial injuries and significant bleeding. Meanwhile, three of the five vehicles involved in the earlier accident were able to leave the scene, while two remained on the bridge awaiting further investigation by the authorities.
Traffic was reported to be at a standstill on the approach to Nhat Tan Bridge, with congestion extending approximately 3 kilometers along Vo Chi Cong Street and the access road leading to Noi Bai Airport. As of 5:30 PM, the scene was still being cleared, with traffic continuing to be heavily impacted.
