Le Quang Tung, aged 54, has transitioned from his role as Secretary of Can Tho City to become the Secretary of An Giang Province, as confirmed by the Central Organization Committee on July 25. This decision was made by the Politburo, which also announced that Tung will no longer hold his previous position and will now participate in the Provincial Party Committee, the Standing Committee, and lead the An Giang Provincial Party Committee.

Tung succeeds Nguyen Tien Hai, who has been reassigned to work at the Ministry of Home Affairs and is being introduced for the position of Minister of Home Affairs. During the announcement, Nguyen Duy Ngoc, head of the Central Organization Committee, praised Tung's comprehensive training and extensive experience in various roles at both central and local levels.

Originally from Ha Tinh, Le Quang Tung is a mechanical engineer with a PhD in economic management. His previous positions include Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, Secretary General of the National Assembly, and Head of the National Assembly Office. He has been serving as Secretary of Can Tho City since September 2025.

With the new appointment, the An Giang Provincial Standing Committee now includes Secretary Le Quang Tung and four Deputy Secretaries: Ho Van Mung, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Lam Minh Thanh; Tran Thi Thanh Huong, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; and Dinh Van Noi, who also serves as Secretary of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee.

An Giang Province, established from the merger of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces on July 1, 2025, covers an area of over 9,888 km² and has a population of nearly 5 million. The province consists of 102 administrative units, including 85 communes, 14 wards, and 3 special zones: Phu Quoc, Kien Hai, and Tho Chau. An Giang aims to become a relatively developed province by 2030, leading the Mekong Delta with an annual GRDP growth rate of over 10%. The province is focusing on three strategic breakthroughs: marine economic development, digital transformation, and green growth, while striving to be among the top in the country for competitiveness index (PCI).
