AI Cameras Record 44 Traffic Light Violations in Hanoi

From July 11 to July 12, 2026, the traffic police department in Hanoi reported that AI cameras captured 44 instances of vehicles running red lights. This alarming statistic underscores the persistent issue of traffic violations in the city.

The AI camera system, managed by the Traffic Police Department, was operational from 7:30 AM on July 11 to 7:30 AM on July 12. During this 24-hour period, the system recorded a total of 10,936 vehicles traveling on the Nội Bài - Lào Cai highway. Out of these, 25 instances were flagged for potential violations, with four confirmed cases of speeding.

In addition to the red light violations, the AI cameras also detected 42 instances of motorcyclists riding without helmets. The majority of the red light violations involved motorcycles, with 43 cases, and one instance involving a car. These behaviors pose a significant risk of serious traffic accidents, endangering both the violators and other road users.

To enhance traffic safety, the Traffic Police Department continues to monitor public feedback regarding road safety issues. In the past 24 hours, they received 14 reports via Facebook, 21 through Zalo (with 17 being actionable), and 26 via the VNeTraffic application. The reports mainly concerned improper lane usage, lane changes without signaling, running red lights, driving against traffic, and using mobile phones while driving.

The Traffic Police Department emphasizes the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, including proper signaling when changing lanes, wearing approved helmets while riding motorcycles, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phone use while driving. They encourage citizens to report any observed traffic violations through the VNeTraffic app or their social media channels, enabling timely verification and enforcement of traffic laws.
