Traffic Violations: Numerous Drivers Fined for Running Red Lights

As of mid-June, traffic police in Vietnam have intensified their efforts to penalize drivers who run red lights. This initiative, part of the enforcement of Decree 168, has led to numerous fines being issued to vehicle owners caught violating traffic laws through surveillance camera footage.

From June 6 to June 12, the Traffic Police Department of Bac Ninh Province reported that they identified several instances of red light violations. The use of advanced surveillance technology has allowed authorities to effectively monitor and record traffic infractions, resulting in the issuance of fines to numerous offenders.

In a similar effort, the Traffic Police Department of Hung Yen Province reported from June 15 to June 21, they documented numerous violations of running red lights using the same surveillance techniques. The enforcement of these regulations is in line with the new traffic law that will take effect on January 1, 2025, which significantly increases penalties for traffic violations.

The new law stipulates that drivers of cars caught running red lights will face fines ranging from 18 to 20 million VND, while motorcyclists will incur fines between 4 to 6 million VND. This substantial increase in penalties aims to enhance compliance with traffic laws and ultimately reduce accidents and traffic congestion.

Authorities are urging violators to report to the local police station where the infraction was recorded or to their place of residence to resolve the violations. The dual approach of public awareness campaigns and strict enforcement is intended to foster a culture of traffic law compliance among drivers.
