On September 15, 2026, the traffic signal system was officially trialed at the Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Nguyen Van Cu - Ly Thai To roundabout, also known as the Ngã Sáu Cộng Hòa. This roundabout is one of the busiest intersections in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, experiencing significant traffic pressure during peak hours.

Prior to the implementation of the traffic signals, vehicles navigated the roundabout without any formal guidance. However, with the new system in place, traffic management has been adjusted to regulate the flow of vehicles more effectively. Reports from the first day of operation indicated an increase in vehicle density, prompting traffic police to adapt their traffic management strategies during peak times.

Initially, the plan included traffic lights with priority signals for motorcycles turning right. However, due to the high volume of vehicles, congestion occurred on the approach roads. In response, traffic police collaborated with relevant units to modify the traffic management plan on-site. Motorcycles were allowed to move continuously through the traffic signals, while cars, buses, and trucks were required to stop at red lights.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction stated that they will continue to monitor vehicle flow and traffic conditions at the roundabout following the new implementation. The timing of the green, yellow, and red lights will be adjusted based on actual traffic conditions. A report on the trial will be compiled and submitted to the Department of Construction after 30 days of implementation. In case of traffic congestion or complications, adjustments will be proposed promptly to ensure traffic order and safety.
