AI Cameras in Hanoi Capture 44 Traffic Violations in One Day

The Traffic Police Department of Vietnam has reported that from June 29 to June 30, AI cameras installed at various intersections in Hanoi captured 44 vehicles running red lights within a single day. This alarming statistic underscores the persistent issue of traffic violations in the capital, even as authorities enhance monitoring efforts.

During the 24-hour monitoring period, which started at 7:30 AM on June 29 and ended at 7:30 AM on June 30, the AI system recorded a total of 9,311 vehicles on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway. Out of these, 30 cases were flagged for potential violations, leading to the identification of four vehicles for not wearing seatbelts while driving.

In addition to the 44 instances of motorcycles running red lights, the AI system also noted several other violations, including motorcyclists not wearing helmets, one motorcycle traveling against traffic, and two cars driving in the wrong lane. The Traffic Police Department emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws and encouraged citizens to report violations through various online platforms.

Public feedback has been instrumental in identifying traffic violations. The department received 116 reports via Facebook, with 18 cases verified, and 11 reports through Zalo, of which 10 were confirmed. Notably, the VNeTraffic app facilitated the reporting of 420 incidents, of which 38 were processed.

The Traffic Police Department advises the public to remain vigilant and verify any traffic violation notifications received through unofficial channels to avoid falling victim to scams. They also reiterated that violations captured by the AI system will result in official notifications sent to vehicle owners, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

For those who have verified their VNeID account and are vehicle owners, the system will automatically send notifications of any infractions within approximately two hours of the incident being recorded.
