Traffic Violations: Numerous Drivers Fined for Running Red Lights
In mid-June, many vehicle owners were fined for running red lights as part of a crackdown by traffic police

The Traffic Police Department of Vietnam recently reported that its AI camera system in Hanoi recorded 130 violations of traffic signals within a 24-hour timeframe from June 24 to June 25, 2026. This initiative aims to improve road safety and enforce traffic regulations more effectively.
During this period, the AI cameras monitored various intersections and detected numerous violations. Specifically, 130 vehicles were noted for disregarding red lights, while an additional 46 instances involved riders not wearing helmets. The system also flagged two vehicles traveling in the wrong direction and one for driving in an incorrect lane.
In addition to the red light violations, the AI cameras on the Nội Bài - Lào Cai expressway recorded over 12,000 vehicle movements, identifying 31 suspicious cases. After verification, four of these were confirmed as violations, primarily for not wearing seat belts.
The Traffic Police Department has been utilizing various platforms to gather reports from the public. Their Facebook page received 177 reports, with 17 cases forwarded for further investigation. The Zalo platform had nine reports, while the VNeTraffic application received 384 reports, leading to 17 cases being verified.
Reported violations included illegal parking, wrong-way driving, lane changes without signaling, and running red lights. All confirmed violations are forwarded to local traffic police units for appropriate action.
This proactive approach by the Traffic Police Department reflects a commitment to enhancing traffic order and safety in Hanoi, utilizing technology to assist in monitoring and enforcement.
