Teacher Arrested in Tuyen Quang Over Unusual Math Scores

The Tuyen Quang Provincial Police have officially charged Nguyen Ha Duy, a 28-year-old math teacher at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted, with abuse of power during his official duties. This development comes as part of an investigation into the unusually high math scores achieved by more than 140 students in the 2026 high school graduation exam.

On July 8, police confirmed that they had detained Duy to further investigate the irregularities associated with the exam results. The investigation was initiated after authorities noticed discrepancies in the scoring, prompting a deeper inquiry into the situation.

Prior to his arrest, Duy was recognized for his academic achievements and contributions to the school, having previously led the school's national math competition team and served as the Deputy Secretary of the school's youth union. He graduated with honors from Hanoi University of Education, where he was part of a high-quality math program.

Throughout his educational career, Duy has received numerous accolades, including a third-place finish in the HOMC competition organized by the Hanoi Mathematics Association, as well as gold and bronze medals at the Hung Vuong Summer Camp. He has also been a consistent performer in national math competitions during his schooling years.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are focused on uncovering the full extent of the irregularities related to the high scores in the math exam. As the case develops, more information is expected to emerge regarding the implications for the students involved and the integrity of the examination process.
