Authorities in Tuyen Quang province have executed an emergency detention order against Nguyen Ha Duy, a teacher at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, as part of an investigation into irregularities in the recent high school graduation exam results. This action was taken on July 5, 2026, following reports of unusual patterns in the exam scores.
The Tuyen Quang Police Department initiated the detention after more than two days of verifying information regarding the exam results at the specialized high school. The investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of the provincial Party Committee and the provincial People's Committee, with cooperation from various police units and related agencies to clarify all aspects of the case.
Prior to the detention, local authorities had received reports indicating potential anomalies in the graduation exam results. In response, they mandated a thorough review of the entire examination process, including organization, grading, and the announcement of results, emphasizing strict action against any identified misconduct.
As of July 5, the police had gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with the emergency detention of Nguyen Ha Duy to facilitate the ongoing investigation. The police are also expanding their inquiry to determine the involvement of other individuals linked to the case.
The graduation exam results from Tuyen Quang revealed that 154 students achieved perfect scores in mathematics, out of more than 17,000 candidates. Notably, 146 of these perfect scores were clustered among a narrow range of candidate numbers, raising further suspicions about the integrity of the results.
The situation has drawn significant attention, and local officials are under pressure to ensure a transparent and fair investigation into the matter.
