The provincial government of Tuyen Quang has taken significant steps to address concerns over the unusually high number of perfect scores in the recent high school graduation math exam. Following reports of 146 students achieving a perfect score of 10, the government has directed a thorough review of all exam papers to investigate potential irregularities.
On July 4, 2026, Tuyen Quang's People's Committee submitted a rapid report to the Prime Minister and the National Exam Steering Committee. The report highlights the need for a comprehensive examination of the exam processes to ensure transparency and integrity. Specifically, the committee has ordered the collection and review of all math exam papers that received a perfect score to determine if there were any instances of answer alteration or score manipulation.
According to the document numbered 171/BC-UBND dated July 3, 2026, the provincial chairman has instructed the Department of Education and Training and the provincial police to conduct an objective assessment of the situation. They are expected to provide accurate information promptly, ensuring that there are no exceptions or cover-ups in the investigation.
The review will include an analysis of student records for all those who scored 10, evaluating their academic performance in math over the years. The provincial police will collaborate with the education department and the exam council to verify all relevant information and data regarding the exam's organization.
There were 329 students registered for the math exam, but only 328 participated. Out of those who took the exam, 146 achieved a perfect score, while 150 scored 9 or higher. The examination committee has stated that all processes were conducted in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Training's regulations, with no errors detected thus far.
The statistics reveal that a notable concentration of perfect scores occurred among students with consecutive registration numbers, raising further questions about the validity of the results. The average score for this group was 9.55, with an astonishing 91.16% of students scoring 9.0 or above. The investigation aims to ensure that any violations of exam regulations or laws are addressed swiftly and thoroughly.
