Northern Vietnam is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures beginning September 9, as a cold air mass moves southward into the region. The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that this cold front will bring rain, thunderstorms, and temperatures dipping below 19 degrees Celsius in certain mountainous areas.

According to forecasts, the cold air system is expected to start affecting the northern mountainous regions on the night of September 9, gradually extending its impact across the northeast, parts of the northwest, and the north-central provinces. The minimum temperatures in these areas are projected to range from 21 to 24 degrees Celsius, while some mountainous regions could see temperatures fall below 19 degrees.

From the evening of September 9 through September 10, northern Vietnam is likely to experience showers and scattered thunderstorms, with certain locations anticipating heavy rainfall. In Hanoi, meteorologists predict a shift to cooler weather accompanied by locally heavy rain during this period.

Looking ahead, from around September 10 until the end of September 11, regions from Thanh Hoa to Hue, along with the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, may face moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals are expected to range between 70mm and 150mm per event, with some areas potentially receiving over 250mm.

The weather agency has issued warnings regarding the possibility of localized flooding and other weather-related disruptions due to the anticipated heavy rain in central Vietnam.
