In a highly anticipated final at the ASIAD 2026, Vietnamese boxer Nguyễn Thị Tâm competed against Wu Yu, the reigning Olympic champion and current world number one, in the women's 51kg category. The match showcased Tâm's determination and skill, but ultimately ended in a 5-0 victory for Wu Yu, who claimed the gold medal.

The bout began with Wu Yu applying pressure, forcing Tâm into the corner of the ring. Tâm, however, maintained her composure and sought opportunities to counterattack. At the end of the first round, the judges scored it 4-9 and 1-10 in favor of Wu Yu, while Tâm received 4 scores of 9 and 1 score of 10.

In the second round, an unexpected shift occurred as Wu Yu allowed Tâm to take the initiative. The Vietnamese boxer seized the opportunity to launch powerful attacks, but the round concluded with Wu Yu again leading, receiving 5 scores of 10 to Tâm's 5 scores of 9.

The third round saw Tâm utilize her height and reach to strike Wu Yu, but the Chinese boxer displayed excellent movement to evade most of the punches. The final scores reflected Wu Yu's dominance, with Tâm receiving 5 scores of 9 and Wu Yu 5 scores of 10.

Despite the loss, Nguyễn Thị Tâm's journey to the final was remarkable, especially after overcoming a three-year hiatus due to injury. She had previously defeated two-time world champion Alua Balkibekova with a score of 5-0 to secure her place in the final. Tâm's performance at ASIAD 2026 has been commendable, and she is recognized as a rising star in Vietnamese boxing.
