Northern Vietnam is preparing for its first cold front of the season, expected to arrive in the coming days, accompanied by light rain. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold front will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms to the region on September 9 and 10, with a noticeable drop in temperatures.

As the cold air moves in, daytime temperatures are anticipated to range from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will cool down to between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. In the mountainous areas of the Northwest, temperatures may even dip below 20 degrees Celsius. Prior to the arrival of the cold front, temperatures in Northern Vietnam will remain relatively high, between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, with sunny weather expected until September 9.

Weather expert Nguyen Thi Lan Oanh, former Vice Chair of the ICAO's Meteorology Group for the Asia-Pacific region, noted that the first northeast monsoon of the season will bring cooler air from the north to Northern and North Central Vietnam on September 9 and 10. She indicated that the region could experience scattered rain and thunderstorms on September 8 and 9, followed by a refreshing autumn weather pattern.

The coastal areas are also expected to see scattered rain and thunderstorms from September 12 to 16. Meanwhile, Central Vietnam will continue to experience scattered rain and thunderstorms until September 16 due to the influence of a low-pressure system affecting the region.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast suggests that Northern Vietnam will experience a prolonged period of rain and thunderstorms. Residents are advised to stay alert for potential hazardous weather conditions. Additionally, experts predict that the upcoming winter of 2026-2027 will be warmer than usual, with late occurrences of severe cold spells due to the El Niño phenomenon.
