The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) of Vietnam has initiated an investigation into the math exam results at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, citing concerns over the unusually high scores reported. On July 2, 2026, the MoET established a task force to verify the examination processes and results related to the math subject in Tuyen Quang province.
This task force includes representatives from the MoET and the Ministry of Public Security, operating under the direct supervision of Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong, who also leads the national examination committee for the 2026 high school graduation exam.
According to initial reports, there were 329 students registered for the math exam, but only 328 participated. Remarkably, 146 students scored a perfect 10, while 150 others scored 9 or above. Such results have raised suspicions, prompting the MoET to conduct a thorough review of the examination and grading processes.
The task force has already begun reviewing the examination procedures, including the management of exam papers and the grading process. They are analyzing the data collected from the exams and comparing the results with the students' academic records to identify any discrepancies.
As part of the investigation, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police have detained Nguyen Ha Duy, a teacher at the specialized high school, for questioning regarding the exam results. The police are expected to further investigate the responsibilities of students, exam supervisors, and other individuals involved in the examination process.
The MoET has emphasized the importance of conducting this investigation promptly, objectively, and in accordance with legal regulations to ensure the integrity of the high school graduation examination and to protect the legitimate rights of students.
On July 4, the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee reported to the Prime Minister and the national examination committee about the organization of the high school graduation exam, noting that there were 18,218 students registered to take the exam in the province.
The situation remains under close scrutiny as authorities continue to investigate the unusual results and ensure that all examination protocols were followed correctly.
