Lightning Strikes, Killing 20 Pigs in Nghe An

A recent storm in Nghe An province resulted in a devastating loss for a local pig farmer when lightning struck his pigpen, killing 20 pigs that were nearing their sale date. On October 5, Nguyen Xuan Ky, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Bich Hao Commune, reported the unfortunate event.

The incident took place on the evening of October 4, when thunderstorms accompanied by lightning swept through Bich Hao Commune. The lightning struck the pigpen of Hoang Van Kinh, a 49-year-old farmer from Tung Phuc village. At the time of the strike, Kinh had a total of 50 pigs in his care.

Out of these, 20 pigs were directly hit and killed, while the remaining 30 pigs were affected but not severely harmed. These pigs were nearly ready for market, weighing between 80 to 100 kilograms each. To mitigate his losses from this natural disaster, Kinh decided to sell the deceased pigs to local slaughterhouses.

Ky noted that the remaining pigs would continue to be cared for as the family awaits their sale date. This incident highlights the risks that farmers face from extreme weather events, which can have dire consequences for their livelihoods.
