Vietnamese citizens are urged to take immediate action regarding their VNeID accounts, as many will face automatic locking starting September 28, 2026, if they do not comply with new regulations. According to Decree 320/2026/ND-CP and Decree 69/2024/ND-CP, there are two key scenarios in which VNeID accounts may be locked.
Conditions for Account Locking
- Locked Electronic ID: If a citizen's electronic ID is locked, the corresponding VNeID account will also be automatically locked. Conversely, if the electronic ID is unlocked, the VNeID account will be restored.
- Changed Phone Number: Accounts will also be locked if the registered phone number has changed and is not registered in the user’s name. This particularly affects users who have not updated their information after changing their phone numbers or those using numbers registered under someone else's name.
Individuals who need to pay special attention include:
- Those who have changed their phone numbers without updating their VNeID account.
- Users whose registered numbers are under a family member's or another person's name.
- Individuals using SIM cards registered to other entities.
It's important to note that not every unregistered number will lead to an account lock on September 28, 2026; the regulation specifies that only numbers that have changed and are not registered in the user's name will trigger this action.
Steps to Avoid Account Locking
To prevent their VNeID accounts from being locked, users should take the following steps:
- Check Linked Phone Number: Ensure the phone number linked to their VNeID account is still in use and correctly registered.
- Verify Ownership: Confirm that the name, date of birth, and identification documents registered with the mobile network match their own information.
- Update Phone Number: If users no longer use the registered phone number, they should proactively update it to a new number that is legally owned by them.
Ensuring that all information associated with the VNeID account is accurate and secure is crucial, as the VNeID is used for various administrative procedures and electronic transactions. Users are encouraged to act promptly to avoid any disruptions to their access.
