Supreme People's Procuracy Proposes Prosecution of Nguyen Hoang Quan

The Supreme People's Procuracy's investigative agency has recently issued a conclusion recommending the prosecution of Nguyen Hoang Quan for the crime of 'using forged documents of organizations' as defined in Clause 1, Article 341 of the Penal Code.

Nguyen Hoang Quan, the former head of the People's Procuracy of Tra On District, is accused of using a forged certificate to gain leniency in a gambling case. The investigation revealed that he did not assist the police in solving theft cases but instead misused a fake commendation to reduce his sentence in a separate gambling case, for which he was sentenced to 36 months in prison.

On April 18, 2025, the Supreme People's Procuracy formally charged Nguyen Hoang Quan with the crime of using forged documents. After he fled, a warrant for his arrest was issued on June 2, 2025. Subsequently, on July 17, 2025, the investigation was temporarily suspended due to his absence.

However, on June 2, 2026, a meeting involving various judicial bodies concluded that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the prosecution in absentia. As a result, the investigation was resumed on July 1, 2026, and a final conclusion was reached on August 10, 2026, recommending prosecution for the crime of using forged documents.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by the Supreme People's Procuracy to address corruption and uphold the integrity of the legal system in Vietnam.
