Former Judge of Hanoi Court Arrested for Misconduct
Nguyen Dang Phong, a former judge of the Hanoi People's Court, has been arrested on charges of misconduct

Nguyen Dang Phong, the former judge of the Hanoi People's Court, has been arrested as part of an investigation into violations related to the handling of a gambling case. On July 7, the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency officially charged and detained Phong for negligence resulting in serious consequences.
This legal action is part of an ongoing investigation into the case of Le Thi Hong Nhung, a former prosecutor of the Hanoi People's Procuracy, who was previously charged with falsifying case documents. The investigation has revealed significant discrepancies in the handling of the case involving Do Ngoc Ha and his accomplices, who were charged with organizing gambling and gambling activities.
During the initial trial of this case, Nguyen Dang Phong served as the presiding judge but failed to fulfill his responsibilities adequately. This negligence is believed to have led to a miscalculation of over 89 billion VND in gambling funds, as well as the improper return of evidence to the defendants, resulting in substantial losses for the state.
Prior to Phong's arrest, on June 24, the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency had also detained Le Thi Hong Nhung for her role in the case. Investigators found that there were two conflicting investigation conclusions regarding the gambling activities, both issued on the same date but detailing different actions and amounts involved.
The Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency is continuing to expand the investigation in accordance with legal regulations.
