Grassroots-level military official arrested for gambling in Ho Chi Minh City
The military official and five other suspects were captured after police raided a gambling den on Wednesday

The Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam has officially charged and arrested Lê Thị Hồng Nhung, a former prosecutor from the Hanoi People's Procuracy, for the crime of 'altering case files'. This development is part of a broader investigation into the abuse of power and misappropriation of property linked to a gambling case involving Đỗ Ngọc Hà and associates.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered discrepancies in two investigation conclusions related to the criminal case against Đỗ Ngọc Hà, which involved gambling activities. The differences in these documents revealed a staggering discrepancy of over 89 billion VND in gambling amounts, which had not been confiscated by the court as required.
As the investigation progressed, it became evident that Nhung's actions had significant implications, leading to the oversight of numerous gambling activities and amounts during the prosecution and trial phases. The Supreme People's Procuracy has since issued legal decisions against Nhung and is continuing to investigate other individuals involved in the gambling operations.
On May 26, 2026, the Supreme People's Procuracy referred materials related to the case to the Criminal Investigation Agency of Hanoi Police for further handling. Subsequently, on May 30 and June 4, 2026, eight individuals were arrested in connection with the gambling charges as the investigation expanded.
This case highlights serious concerns regarding the integrity of judicial processes in Vietnam, prompting calls for stricter oversight and accountability within the legal system.
