Former Judge of Hanoi Court Arrested for Misconduct
Nguyen Dang Phong, a former judge of the Hanoi People's Court, has been arrested on charges of misconduct

Nguyen Dang Phong, the former judge of the Hanoi People's Court, has been arrested by the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency for serious negligence in his judicial responsibilities. This arrest is linked to a case involving gambling, where Phong is accused of not properly executing his duties as the presiding judge, leading to a discrepancy of over 89 billion VND in the gambling case's financial assessment.
The investigation revealed that Phong failed to confiscate the illegal profits of the defendants and improperly returned several pieces of evidence, causing significant losses to the state. His actions are considered a breach of legal protocols, resulting in the initiation of criminal proceedings against him for “serious negligence causing severe consequences.”
This case is part of a wider investigation into judicial misconduct, which also involves Le Thi Hong Nhung, a former prosecutor accused of manipulating case files related to the gambling case of Do Ngoc Ha and his accomplices. The Supreme People's Procuracy is continuing its investigation into these allegations to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of the judicial system.
The actions taken against Phong and others involved highlight the ongoing efforts to address corruption and negligence within Vietnam's legal framework, aiming to restore public trust in the judiciary.
