Severe Weather Warning for Nine Provinces in Vietnam

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning regarding heavy rainfall expected across nine provinces in Vietnam, particularly in the northern mountainous areas and Lam Dong. The warning indicates a significant risk of flash floods and landslides in several districts within these regions.

As of the morning of July 29, widespread heavy rain has already been reported in the northern provinces. According to the latest update from the forecasting center, from 2 PM on July 28 to 2 PM on July 29, several areas experienced substantial rainfall. For instance, Son Binh 2 recorded 87.6mm, Na Son 1 had 86.8mm, and other locations reported similar amounts, with some areas exceeding 148.6mm.

The soil moisture levels in these provinces are nearing saturation, with some areas exceeding 85%. The forecast for the next 3 to 6 hours indicates continued heavy rainfall, with expected accumulations of 10-30mm in the northern provinces and 5-20mm in Lam Dong, with isolated areas possibly receiving over 70mm.

Authorities have highlighted the potential for flash floods in smaller rivers and streams, as well as landslides on steep slopes in various districts. The risk level for natural disasters due to flash floods and landslides has been classified as level 1, indicating a serious threat to the environment, local transport, and economic activities.
