Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern Vietnam: Up to 300mm Expected

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning for heavy rain in Northern Vietnam, particularly affecting the mountainous and midland areas, as well as Quang Ninh province. This weather phenomenon is expected to occur from the evening of July 8 until July 10, 2026.

According to the forecast, areas such as the northern mountainous regions and Quang Ninh are likely to experience widespread rain, with rainfall amounts ranging from 70 to 150mm. However, localized areas could see rainfall exceeding 300mm. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated in the evenings and early mornings.

On July 8, rainfall measurements from 7 AM to 3 PM already indicated significant precipitation, with stations recording over 60mm. For instance, Khau Tinh in Tuyen Quang reported 93.4mm, while Cam Pha in Quang Ninh recorded 69mm.

In addition to heavy rain, thunderstorms are expected, which may bring strong winds, hail, and lightning. The forecast also highlights the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying urban areas and industrial zones.

As the weather system progresses, the intensity of the rain is projected to decrease after July 10. However, authorities have issued a disaster risk warning level of 1 due to the potential for severe weather conditions.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
