Heavy Rain in Northern Vietnam Due to Maysak Storm

Heavy rainfall is currently affecting Northern Vietnam as a result of the influence of Storm Maysak. On the evening of July 4 and throughout July 5, areas in the Northeast, particularly Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Lang Son, and Bac Ninh, are forecasted to receive substantial rainfall, with some locations potentially exceeding 350mm.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that due to Storm Maysak, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Northeast region, as well as from Thanh Hoa to Hue and in the southern provinces. Rainfall amounts from 7 AM to 8 PM on July 4 reached over 80mm in several areas, including Chuc Bai Son (Quang Ninh) with 98.4mm and Chau Kim 1 (Nghe An) with 102.4mm.

From the evening of July 4 until the end of July 5, the Northeast region is expected to see widespread rainfall of 50-110mm, with isolated areas receiving over 150mm. The northeastern provinces are likely to experience rainfall ranging from 100-250mm, with some places potentially exceeding 350mm.

In addition to the heavy rain, the meteorological agency has warned of a possible flood event in the rivers of the Northeast region, with water levels expected to rise between 3-6m in upstream areas and 2-4m in downstream areas. Flood levels on the Lo River and other rivers in Bac Ninh may reach warning levels 1-2, while rivers in Quang Ninh and Lang Son could reach warning levels 2-3.

Authorities have issued warnings about the high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam. The weather forecast for July 5 indicates that Hanoi will experience overcast skies with moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, along with the possibility of strong winds and lightning. Temperatures are expected to range from 25-27 degrees Celsius at night to 30-32 degrees Celsius during the day.

As the storm progresses, it is anticipated to weaken into a tropical depression over southern Guangxi, China, by early July 5.
