The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has alerted residents of northern Vietnam about an impending heavy rain and thunderstorm event beginning this evening, July 8, and lasting until July 10. The affected areas include the mountainous and midland regions of Northern Vietnam and Quang Ninh, where rainfall is expected to be between 70-150mm, with some areas potentially receiving over 300mm.
Authorities have warned of the possibility of intense rain, with amounts exceeding 100mm in just three hours. From this evening, heavy rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in many regions of Northern Vietnam. Residents in Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, and nearby provinces are advised to closely monitor the weather and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
During thunderstorms, it is crucial for people to stay indoors and avoid seeking shelter under tall trees, billboards, or temporary structures due to the risk of strong winds, lightning, and localized flooding that could disrupt transportation.
Additionally, from this evening until July 9, other areas in Northern Vietnam may experience light to moderate rain, with rainfall ranging from 10-30mm and isolated heavy rain exceeding 70mm, primarily occurring in the afternoon, evening, and early morning.
The forecast for Hanoi over the next ten days indicates scattered rain and thunderstorms, with no heatwave conditions expected. Temperatures are predicted to range from a low of 26-28°C to a high of 31-33°C, with some areas exceeding 33°C.
Looking ahead to the period from July 10 to July 18, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting anticipates continued scattered rain and thunderstorms across Northern Vietnam, particularly in the evenings and at night. Rainfall is expected to decrease around July 12-13 and after July 16.
In Thanh Hoa to Hue and the southern central coast, scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected in the evenings, with some areas experiencing heavy rain from July 10 to 12. Daytime temperatures in Quang Tri to Da Nang and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak are expected to be hot.
In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecasted in the afternoons and evenings, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall. In Ho Chi Minh City, scattered rain and thunderstorms are also expected in the evenings.
