Heavy Rain Forecast in Central Vietnam: Flood Risks for 4 Provinces

Central Vietnam is set to experience heavy rainfall for the next six days, raising concerns about flooding in four provinces. The National Hydro-Meteorological Center has issued warnings regarding the impact of cold air leading to significant precipitation from Ha Tinh to Da Nang, with some areas potentially receiving over 200 mm of rain.

As of October 6, 2026, the cold front has already affected much of Hue City and parts of Da Nang, resulting in moderate to heavy rain across the region. Forecasts indicate that the weather will continue to deteriorate, with rain expected to persist until October 11. The rainfall intensity is projected to be particularly severe, with rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 100 mm, and isolated areas experiencing more than 200 mm.

According to Nguyen Van Huong, head of the Weather Forecasting Department at the National Hydro-Meteorological Center, the weather in Hanoi on October 6 will also be influenced by the cold front, leading to sunny days but cold nights with temperatures ranging from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.

The forecast for October 7 indicates that the area from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai will continue to see heavy rain and thunderstorms, with similar rainfall predictions. The potential for localized flooding is significant, especially with rainfall rates exceeding 100 mm every three hours.

By October 8, the rainfall is expected to continue, with cumulative totals in the region from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai reaching between 100 and 250 mm, with some areas exceeding 400 mm. The southern parts of Quang Tri to Hue are expected to receive even more substantial rainfall, with totals ranging from 300 to 400 mm, and isolated regions possibly exceeding 600 mm.

The National Hydro-Meteorological Center has indicated that this widespread heavy rain event may last until October 10 or 11, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying and urban areas, as well as landslides in mountainous regions. The provinces most at risk include Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang.

In related news, the Department of Dyke Management and Flood Prevention has reported that the heavy rains, driven by the cold air, have already caused initial damages in northern and central provinces.
