On October 1, 2026, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued decisions regarding the retirement of several high-ranking military officials. Among those retiring are four major generals and three colonels from the Vietnam People's Army, signaling a notable shift in military leadership.
According to Decision No. 1891/QĐ-TTg, Major General Đỗ Văn Thiện has been relieved of his duties as the Chief Political Officer of the General Department of Logistics - Techniques, effective November 1, 2026, and will officially retire on January 1, 2027. Additionally, Major General Hồ Quang Tuấn, who served as the Head of the General Department of Defense Industry, will retire as of October 1, 2026.
Furthermore, a handover ceremony for the role of Director of the Central Military Prosecutor's Office took place on the same day. Major General Tạ Quang Khải, who was the Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy and the Director of the Central Military Prosecutor's Office, is also retiring under the same regulations. The Deputy Director, Brigadier General Nguyễn Thanh Phong, has been appointed to oversee the office's responsibilities during this transition.
In a related event, on September 28, 2026, two senior generals were honored with the First-Class Order of the Fatherland Protection. General Hoàng Xuân Chiến and General Phùng Sĩ Tấn received this prestigious award for their outstanding contributions to the national action program aimed at overcoming the consequences of post-war unexploded ordnance from 2010 to 2025.
