The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning regarding significant rainfall expected from tonight until September 24. The primary focus of this heavy rain will be in the region from Hue to Da Nang and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak provinces, where some areas may experience rainfall exceeding 250mm within a 24-hour period.

According to Mr. Do Tien Vinh from the weather forecasting department, the recent days have already seen moderate to heavy rainfall across Hue city, the South Central Coast, and the Southern region. This trend is expected to continue, with heavy rain likely to cause hazardous phenomena such as flash floods and landslides.

Mr. Vinh noted that the heaviest rainfall will be concentrated from Hue to Da Nang, with expected precipitation ranging from 60 to 130mm in 24 hours, and localized areas potentially exceeding 250mm. Additionally, provinces like Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and parts of the South will also see moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall amounts typically between 30 and 80mm, and some areas may receive over 150mm.

From the night of September 24 to September 25, the areas of heavy rain are expected to shift northward. Rainfall of 40 to 70mm is anticipated from Ha Tinh to Da Nang, with isolated areas receiving over 100mm. Other parts of the Central and Southern regions will experience rainfall ranging from 20 to 40mm, with some areas potentially exceeding 80mm.

This heavy rainfall poses a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban regions, and industrial zones, as well as flash floods in small rivers and streams and landslides on steep slopes. Currently, water levels in rivers from Hue to Lam Dong are fluctuating but remain below warning level 1.

From September 22 to 25, a flood event is expected on rivers from Hue to Lam Dong, with flood peaks on rivers in Hue and small streams in the upper reaches of major rivers from Da Nang to Lam Dong reaching warning levels 1 and 2. The flood peaks on the lower reaches of Vu Gia - Thu Bon, Tra Khuc, Kon - Ha Thanh, Ba, Se San, and Srepok rivers are expected to fluctuate around warning level 1.

There is a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas, as well as flash floods and landslides on slopes in the provinces from Hue to Lam Dong.
