According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Northern Vietnam will face significant rainfall beginning the night of July 23, 2026. The forecast indicates that provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, and Son La will be the hardest hit.

On the evening of July 22, light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam, with rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 30mm. However, localized areas may experience heavy rain exceeding 80mm.

From the night of July 23 to July 25, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted across the region, with total rainfall generally between 70 to 150mm. Some areas could see extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 250mm. There is a warning for the potential of intense rainfall, with over 100mm expected within a three-hour period. The provinces of Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, and Son La need to be vigilant against the risks of flash floods and landslides.

In addition to heavy rain, thunderstorms may bring strong winds, hail, and lightning. The risk level for natural disasters related to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail has been classified as level 1.

The forecasted heavy rainfall could impact agricultural production, cause trees to fall, and damage homes, transportation infrastructure, and other facilities. The heavy rain and localized downpours may lead to flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
