Truong Minh Huy Vu has made history by being elected as the Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, making him the youngest individual to assume this role. The election occurred during the fifth special session of the city council on September 21, where he received an impressive 118 out of 120 votes from the attending representatives.

Born in Tan Dong commune, Dong Thap province, Vu holds a doctorate in International Political Economy, a master's degree in Social Sciences focusing on globalization and internationalization, and a bachelor's degree in European Studies. He also possesses advanced political theory training.

Before his recent election, Vu held various academic and managerial positions at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Software Park, and several units under the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City. In late 2022, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute.

The Chairman of the city, Phan Van Mai, praised Vu for his expertise in macroeconomics, strategy, and planning, noting his involvement in consulting for various localities. In August 2024, he was promoted to Director of the Institute while also serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council for the implementation of Resolution 98. This council advises the city on investment, finance, public-private partnerships, and urban development with a focus on public transport and green growth.

In 2025, Vu became a member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party for the 2025-2030 term. By December of that year, he also took on the role of Chairman of the Executive Agency of the Vietnam International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City and was elected as a member of the National Assembly for the 16th term this year.

With Vu's election, the leadership of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee now includes eight members: Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc and seven deputy chairmen: Nguyen Loc Ha, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Bui Minh Thanh, Nguyen Cong Vinh, Hoang Nguyen Dinh, Tran Van Bay, and Truong Minh Huy Vu.
