Lê Trí Thanh Elected as New Chairman of Hue City

Lê Trí Thanh, previously the Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee, has been officially elected as the Chairman of Hue City for the term 2026-2031. The election took place during the second extraordinary session of the ninth term of the Hue City People's Council on July 26.

At 56 years old, Lê Trí Thanh hails from Điện Hồng commune in the former Quảng Nam province, now part of Đà Nẵng. He holds a master's degree in public policy, along with bachelor's degrees in law, finance, and political science.

Throughout his career, Thanh has held various significant positions, including Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs for Quảng Nam province, Head of the Investment Promotion and Business Support Board, and Chairman of Điện Bàn town. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Quảng Nam Provincial People's Committee.

In November 2019, he was elected as the Chairman of the Quảng Nam Provincial People's Committee. Following the merger of Quảng Nam province and Đà Nẵng city on July 1, 2025, Thanh was appointed as the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Đà Nẵng. On July 15, he was confirmed by the Party Central Committee as the Deputy Secretary of the Đà Nẵng City Party Committee for the term 2025-2030.

On July 26, he was also appointed to participate in the Executive Committee of the Hue City Party and the Standing Committee of the Hue City Party Committee for the term 2025-2030.

Starting January 2025, Hue will become a centrally governed city, covering an area of 4,947 square kilometers with a population of over 1.2 million and 40 administrative units at the commune level. From 2020 to 2025, the local Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) has increased by 7.54% annually, with an average income of $3,200, and total budget revenue reaching 64.5 trillion VND. For the period of 2025-2030, the city aims for an average growth rate of 10% per year, with a per capita GRDP between $5,800 and $6,000, focusing on developing a green, smart, and culturally rich urban environment.
