Williams Minh Hoàng, a promising young striker for the Vietnam national football team, has recently clarified misinformation regarding his birthplace. In an interview with FIFA, he stated, "My mother and grandmother are Vietnamese. But I was born in Liverpool - definitely not Manchester." This clarification comes as he focuses on the upcoming match against Malaysia in the FIFA ASEAN Cup.
Minh Hoàng's birthplace is now part of his story as he represents Vietnam on the international stage. He has participated in three matches during the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, each providing him with unique experiences. He contributed to Vietnam's victory over the Philippines, came off the bench in a challenging match against Thailand, and scored his first goal for the national team in a 4-2 win against Pakistan.
Regarding his first goal, Minh Hoàng expressed gratitude and pride in representing Vietnam. He stated, "I will always do my best and give over 100% to contribute to this team and my country." Although he felt he could have done more in the match against Pakistan, he celebrated the milestone as a significant personal achievement.
Reflecting on his performance, he mentioned, "I think I played well against the Philippines. There weren't too many standout moments, but I did manage an assist, which was good on a personal level. The match against Thailand was tough when I came on as a substitute, but we all tried our best. I should have scored a hat-trick against Pakistan, but I’m still happy to celebrate my first goal."
The victory against Pakistan not only marked a personal milestone for Minh Hoàng but also showcased the team's resilience. After trailing in the first half, Vietnam made a remarkable comeback, demonstrating their fighting spirit. Minh Hoàng noted, "We may have lost focus due to the weather and pitch conditions. But in the second half, we showed our character and fighting spirit, turning the game around to achieve the desired result."
As Minh Hoàng looks to the future, he sees the upcoming match against Malaysia as a crucial challenge. He emphasized that while this match may not determine the championship, it is still incredibly important for him and his teammates. "Of course, every match is equally important. Our goal is to win. We need a positive result today, especially to prepare for the match against Malaysia," he concluded.
