The Vietnamese Ministry of Home Affairs has put forward a proposal to the government for an additional day off to celebrate the Cultural Holiday on November 24, 2026. This proposal specifies that there will be no swapping of workdays, allowing workers to enjoy the holiday fully.

This year, the Cultural Holiday falls on a Tuesday, and employees will receive a paid day off. The ministry initially considered a plan to swap the workday from Monday, November 23, to Saturday, November 28, in order to create a continuous four-day holiday from November 21 to November 24, 2026. However, after reviewing feedback and practical requirements, the ministry decided to propose a one-day holiday on Tuesday, November 24, without altering the work schedule.

This schedule will apply to all workers in the business sector as well. The rationale behind this proposal is that at the end of November, various agencies and units focus on completing their annual programs and work plans. Businesses also aim to accelerate production, delivery, and completion of business plans in preparation for the upcoming year. By keeping the holiday on the actual date without swapping workdays, it ensures that the workflow remains steady towards the end of the year, which is crucial for companies operating in shifts, fulfilling orders, or running continuously.

The proposal emphasizes that this plan will still allow citizens to enjoy cultural activities, support business development, and maintain administrative operations. The Cultural Holiday this year is set for November 24.

Additionally, the proposal for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2027 remains unchanged, extending for seven days from the 28th day of the last lunar month of the Year of the Horse until the end of the 5th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Goat (February 4, 2027, to February 10, 2027). Civil servants will return to work on the 6th day of the Lunar New Year.

For the National Day in 2027, civil servants will have a day off on September 3, which is adjacent to the holiday, resulting in a continuous four-day break from September 2 to September 5, 2027.

Currently, Vietnam has 12 public holidays with paid leave, including one day for New Year's Day, five days for the Lunar New Year, one day for the Hung Kings' Commemoration, one day for the Reunification Day, one day for Labor Day, two days for National Day, and one day for the Cultural Holiday.

The holiday schedule for the National Day in 2027 for business employees will be determined by employers, including September 2 and one adjacent day before or after.
