The Ministry of Home Affairs in Vietnam has officially announced that the National Day holiday on September 2, 2026, will be extended to five consecutive days. This announcement, detailed in document number 9441/TB-BNV, affects civil servants, public employees, and workers across the country, allowing them to enjoy a longer holiday period.

According to the announcement, civil servants and public employees will have two days off for the National Day, which includes September 2 and an additional day off on September 1. To facilitate this extended holiday, the working day on Monday, August 31, will be swapped with Saturday, August 22, allowing for a continuous five-day break.

For employees in the private sector, the holiday will also include September 2, with the option to take either September 1 or September 3 off. This flexibility aims to accommodate various business operations while ensuring that employees can enjoy their time off.

Organizations and units are required to arrange staff to ensure continuous service during the holiday, particularly to address any unexpected issues that may arise. The Ministry has emphasized the importance of planning and implementing measures that encourage economic and social activities during this period, ensuring stability in the supply and demand of goods and services.

Employers are mandated to inform their employees about the holiday plans at least 30 days in advance. If a regular day off coincides with the holiday, employers must provide an alternative day off as stipulated in the Labor Code.

Additionally, the Ministry encourages employers to adopt the same holiday schedule for their employees as that of civil servants, while also promoting agreements that may offer better conditions for workers. With the implementation of the Vietnam Culture Day on November 24, public employees will enjoy an additional day off, raising the total number of holidays in 2026 to 12 days.
