Ministry of Home Affairs Reports on Wage Reform Roadmap

The Ministry of Home Affairs has presented a comprehensive report to the government detailing the roadmap for wage reform in Vietnam. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the effectiveness of labor policies, employment, and social security systems.

In the report, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of standardizing job positions and restructuring the workforce at the local level. The focus for 2026 will be on improving the capabilities of civil servants, ensuring they are well-equipped to adapt to new challenges and responsibilities.

One of the key aspects of this reform is the establishment of a new wage structure. According to the 2018 Resolution 27-NQ/TW, the new wage system will consist of a basic salary that accounts for approximately 70% of the total wage fund, along with allowances that make up the remaining 30%. Additionally, civil servants and public employees will be eligible for bonuses that can reach about 10% of the total wage fund, excluding allowances.

The wage reform also includes the creation of three different salary tables for the armed forces, ensuring that their salaries remain competitive with those in the civil service. The basic salary has already been increased to 2.53 million VND per month as of July 1, 2026, along with an 8% increase in pensions and social security benefits for eligible individuals.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs is tasked with reviewing and refining the legal framework surrounding social insurance and public sector wages. This is crucial for ensuring that the new wage policies are implemented effectively and that they meet the needs of the workforce.

During a recent government meeting, the Minister of Finance urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and local authorities to effectively implement these wage reform policies, highlighting their importance for the welfare of public sector employees.
