Cold Air Covers Northern and Central Vietnam, Heavy Rain Expected

As of October 6, cold air will dominate the weather in Northern Vietnam, leading to chilly nights and mornings, especially in mountainous areas. Meanwhile, Central Vietnam, from Ha Tinh to Hue, is expected to experience heavy rainfall, with some areas facing very heavy downpours.

The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting has indicated that the cold air will continue to influence the weather in Northern and North Central Vietnam. In the North, the weather will be cool during the night and morning, while the afternoon will see clearer skies and sunshine. However, rainfall will shift from the North to Central Vietnam, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are anticipated.

Forecasts suggest that the regions from Ha Tinh to Hue could receive rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 mm, with some areas exceeding 200 mm. There is a risk of intense rainfall exceeding 100 mm within three hours, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas and urban centers. Additionally, the risk of flash floods in small rivers and landslides in mountainous regions is heightened.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of strong winds, lightning, and hail. The weather forecast for October 6 across various regions in Vietnam is as follows:

  • Hanoi: Overcast with occasional rain at night; clearer in the afternoon with sunshine. Northeastern winds at 2-3 levels. Minimum temperature: 20-22°C; maximum temperature: 27-29°C.
  • Northwest Region: Overcast with occasional rain at night; clearer in the afternoon with sunshine. Light winds. Minimum temperature: 19-22°C, with some areas below 18°C; maximum temperature: 26-29°C.
  • Northeast Region: Overcast with occasional rain at night; clearer in the afternoon with sunshine. Northeastern winds at 2-3 levels, with coastal areas at 3-4 levels. Minimum temperature: 19-22°C, with mountainous areas below 18°C; maximum temperature: 27-30°C.
  • Thanh Hoa to Hue: Overcast. Northern areas may see occasional rain; from Ha Tinh to Hue, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, with some areas facing very heavy rain. Northeastern to northwestern winds at 2-3 levels. Minimum temperature: 23-26°C; maximum temperature: 26-29°C.
  • South Central Coast: Northern areas may see scattered rain and thunderstorms; southern areas may have occasional rain at night, with sunshine during the day. Light winds. Minimum temperature: 23-26°C; maximum temperature: 26-30°C in the north, 30-33°C in the south.
  • Central Highlands: Scattered rain and thunderstorms expected; afternoon and evening may see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with some areas facing heavy rain. Minimum temperature: 21-24°C; maximum temperature: 29-32°C.
  • Southern Vietnam: Scattered rain and thunderstorms expected; afternoon and evening may see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with some areas facing heavy rain. Light winds. Minimum temperature: 24-27°C; maximum temperature: 31-34°C.
  • Ho Chi Minh City: Scattered rain and thunderstorms expected; afternoon and evening may see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with some areas facing heavy rain. Minimum temperature: 24-26°C; maximum temperature: 32-34°C.
