The Northern region of Vietnam is bracing for significant rainfall beginning on the night of September 13, 2026. The forecast predicts moderate to heavy rain, with some areas potentially receiving over 60mm of precipitation. This weather pattern is expected to expand from the lowland areas to the midland and mountainous regions.

As of September 12, the weather in Northern Vietnam is characterized by sunny conditions with temperatures ranging from 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. However, the Central region is currently experiencing heavy rain due to the influence of a tropical convergence line associated with a tropical depression in the South China Sea. This system is expected to shift northward, bringing rain back to the Northern provinces.

On the night of September 13, the lowland areas of Northern Vietnam will see rainfall between 20 to 40mm, with localized areas experiencing very heavy rain exceeding 60mm. The following day, September 14, the midland and lowland regions, including parts of Son La, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, and Lao Cai, are expected to receive 30 to 60mm of rain, with some areas potentially exceeding 100mm.

The meteorological agency has warned that the heavy rainfall may continue until the morning of September 16, posing risks of flooding in low-lying urban areas and industrial zones, as well as flash floods in small rivers and landslides on steep slopes. The risk level for natural disasters due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail has been classified as level 1.

In the Central region, heavy rain is also forecasted from September 12 to 14, particularly affecting areas from Ha Tinh to the northern part of Quang Tri, where rainfall could reach up to 300mm in some places. The situation requires close monitoring as conditions may lead to severe weather hazards.
