Heavy Rain Expected in Northern Vietnam Amid Tropical Depression

Northern Vietnam is set to experience significant rainfall on August 19, with forecasts indicating that some areas could receive more than 300mm of rain. This weather pattern is influenced by a tropical depression currently active in the East Sea, which is generating winds of up to 49 km/h and causing rough sea conditions.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam are expected to see moderate to heavy rain, with typical precipitation ranging from 50 to 100mm, and localized areas potentially exceeding 150mm. In the lowland areas of Northern Vietnam, including southern Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa, rainfall is expected to be between 100 and 200mm, with some locations possibly experiencing over 300mm.

From the afternoon of August 19 to August 20, areas from southern Quang Tri to Hue will also see moderate to heavy rain, with expected rainfall of 40 to 70mm, and some areas could exceed 120mm. The meteorological agency has warned of the potential for intense rainfall exceeding 100mm within a three-hour period.

As the tropical depression continues to develop, it was located in the northern part of the East Sea as of 7 PM on August 18, moving west at about 20 km/h. Over the next 24 to 48 hours, it is expected to slow its movement to a northwest direction, traveling approximately 5 km per hour. The impact of the tropical depression includes strong winds of level 6 and gusts reaching level 8, with wave heights of 2 to 3.5 meters, creating hazardous sea conditions.

Fishermen and vessels operating in the affected areas are advised to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. The heavy rainfall in Northern Vietnam poses risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.
