Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Three in Dong Nai
Nguyễn Đức Anh has been sentenced to death for the brutal murder of three members of a family in Dong Nai.

On October 6, the People's Court of Dong Nai sentenced Nguyễn Đức Anh, 21, to death for the murder of three family members, including two children. The court described his actions as particularly dangerous and ruthless, emphasizing that he carried out the crime despite the victims being unable to defend themselves.
In addition to the death penalty for murder, Đức Anh received a six-year sentence for the illegal use of military weapons, bringing his total sentence to death. The court also ordered him to compensate the victims' family over 1.1 billion VND.
During the trial, Đức Anh's defense attorney argued that he had a good character, was a first-time offender, and had shown remorse. The lawyer requested the court to consider these mitigating circumstances. However, the victims' representatives demanded a total compensation of over 4.5 billion VND, citing emotional distress and funeral costs.
The court noted that Đức Anh had not directly apologized to the victims' family throughout the proceedings, which the victims' lawyers highlighted as a lack of remorse. They argued against applying any leniency based on his confession, stating that he was caught in the act and his admissions were expected.
In his final statement, Đức Anh appeared calm and simply replied, "I have nothing to say" when asked if he wanted to address the court.
The court found that Đức Anh's actions met the criteria for murder, including killing multiple individuals and committing the act in a brutal manner. The court determined that there was no prior conflict between Đức Anh and the victims, and his motive stemmed from a desire for revenge after a breakup.
On the night of the murders, Đức Anh attempted to enter his ex-girlfriend's home but, unable to do so, broke into the home of a neighbor. There, he attacked the neighbor and subsequently killed his wife and two children.
The court concluded that Đức Anh displayed a disregard for human life and that his actions were premeditated. Despite his claims of having a personality disorder, the court ruled that he was fully aware of his actions at the time of the crime.
Ultimately, the court decided that Đức Anh could not be rehabilitated and needed to be permanently removed from society, imposing the maximum penalty to serve as a deterrent against similar future crimes.
