On June 23, police in Nghe An province arrested 64-year-old Hoàng Văn Khánh for illegal drug trafficking.

A recent trial in Hue has concluded with the death sentence for Trần Hải Dương, who was found guilty of leading a serious drug trafficking operation. The case involved the transport of nearly 29 kilograms of drugs from Laos into Vietnam, marking it as one of the most severe drug-related offenses in the region.
On June 30, 2026, the People's Court of Hue held a trial for five individuals involved in the case, including Dương, who was previously a member of the Phú Vang District Party Committee. The court revealed that Dương had established a drug trafficking network in July 2024, which facilitated the smuggling of drugs into Vietnam. He was later joined by Nguyễn Đình Tráng Kiệt, who assisted in the transportation and distribution of the narcotics.
Throughout their operation, Dương and his associates utilized various bank accounts to obscure their illegal activities. The police investigation led to the discovery of a large quantity of drugs and firearms hidden in the residence of Dương's father-in-law. The seized items included over 22 kilograms of methamphetamine and significant amounts of other synthetic drugs.
The court emphasized the organized and prolonged nature of the drug trafficking activities, which involved a clear division of roles among the defendants. As a result, Dương received the death penalty, while Kiệt was sentenced to life imprisonment. Other accomplices received varying prison terms, underscoring the serious nature of their crimes.
This case highlights ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking in Vietnam and the severe legal repercussions for those involved in such activities.
