TikTok Creators Admit to Drug Use in Court

On June 12, Nguyen Nhat Duy, 28, and Nguyen Van Hoang, 25, along with two associates, were tried by the People's Court of District 2 in Ho Chi Minh City for organizing illegal drug use. Trần Kim Thanh, who supplied drugs to Duy and Hoang, was charged with illegal drug trafficking.

Duy and Hoang are content creators on TikTok, operating the channel "Nhat Duy - Nhat Hoang," which has nearly 100,000 followers. Their videos primarily focus on daily life, travel, and youth entertainment, with some clips garnering millions of views.

According to the indictment, Duy, Hoang, and their friends began using drugs in 2024. In October 2024, after dining out, the group gathered at Nguyen Hoang Huu Luân's bedroom in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City. Duy suggested pooling money to buy drugs, ordering 10 ecstasy pills and half a box of ketamine for 6.5 million VND from a person named Trang, whose identity remains unknown. Luân prepared speakers, lights, and equipment for their drug use.

A month later, Duy ordered more drugs and the group reconvened at Luân's house. By December 31, 2024, Duy purchased a larger quantity of drugs from Trần Kim Thanh, including 15 ecstasy pills and ketamine for 10.5 million VND. On February 13, 2025, the group again bought drugs for use, but later that night, police apprehended them.

During the court session, Duy and his accomplices admitted to the charges, stating they initially used drugs to relieve stress but could not quit and continued to seek more. When asked if he had heard the slogan against drug use, Duy replied that he did not think about the consequences. Hoang explained that he started using drugs because he played with Duy and was invited to join. Thanh admitted to buying drugs from a former colleague named Vinh and selling them to Duy for profit.

The investigation has yet to clarify the identities of Trang and Vinh. After questioning, the court announced a temporary adjournment to review additional documents, with the trial set to resume on June 19.
