Northern Vietnam is preparing for a substantial weather change as heavy rainfall is forecasted to begin on the night of August 17. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the region will see widespread rain and thunderstorms, with isolated areas experiencing very heavy rainfall.

From the evening of August 15 to August 17, sporadic rain and thunderstorms are anticipated across the northern provinces, with some places likely to see heavy rain. On August 17, the rainfall is expected to intensify, bringing significant precipitation to the area.

In addition to the northern region, areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the southern central coast are also expected to experience scattered rain and thunderstorms in the evening. Specifically, Thanh Hoa to Nghe An will see sporadic rain and thunderstorms, with some areas facing heavy downpours. During the daytime, hot weather is expected, with some regions experiencing extreme heat.

The Central Highlands and Southern regions will also witness scattered rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to be vigilant about potential dangerous weather phenomena during thunderstorms, such as whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds.

Looking ahead, the meteorological agency predicts that from the night of August 17 to August 25, the northern region will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly from August 17 to 21, with some areas facing very heavy rainfall. Starting August 22, the rain is expected to decrease, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will still persist.

From Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, similar weather patterns are expected from August 17 to 21, with moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. After August 22, rainfall will reduce, with only occasional showers and thunderstorms.

In the coastal area from Quang Tri to Da Nang, mainly scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected, with sunny weather during the day, and some areas experiencing heat. From August 18 to 20, the region is likely to see scattered rain and thunderstorms.

In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, scattered rain and thunderstorms will occur, particularly in the afternoon and evening, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. The meteorological agency warns of the potential for whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds during these thunderstorms. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather alerts, especially in areas at risk of heavy rain, flooding, and landslides.

Meanwhile, the intense heat in the Central region is gradually diminishing. On August 15, places like Da Nang and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa experienced high temperatures, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. On August 16 and 17, the temperatures in the region ranged from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, with some spots exceeding 37 degrees. The risk of fire and explosion due to increased electricity usage is also a concern as the heat persists.
