Public Employees to Work Saturday for Extended National Day Holiday

In a recent announcement, the Minister of Home Affairs confirmed that public employees in Vietnam will work on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in exchange for a five-day holiday for the National Day celebrations on September 2. This adjustment allows government workers to enjoy an extended break that includes the preceding weekend.

According to the regulations, public employees are entitled to two days off for the National Day holiday: September 2 and the preceding day, September 1. Additionally, the workday originally scheduled for Monday, August 31, will be swapped with Saturday, August 22, allowing for a continuous five-day holiday.

For employees in the private sector, the National Day holiday will include a day off on September 2, with the option to take either September 1 or September 3 off. Employers are required to inform their employees about the holiday schedule at least 30 days in advance.

The Minister of Home Affairs has advised all administrative agencies, political organizations, and businesses to ensure that essential services remain operational during this period. They are encouraged to arrange staff to ensure continuous service to the public.

Furthermore, the Ministry encourages employers to adopt similar holiday arrangements for their employees as those provided to public workers, while also supporting any agreements that may offer better conditions for workers.
