The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning about heavy rainfall expected from tonight, September 18, through tomorrow, September 19, across several regions in Vietnam. The most affected areas will be from Thanh Hoa to Hue, where rain intensity is expected to increase significantly.

As of this morning, rainfall in the Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh region has already reached alarming levels, with some areas recording over 90mm of rain. For instance, the Cua Dat water reservoir in Thanh Hoa reported 111mm, and Moc Son in Nghe An recorded 124.8mm. The forecast indicates that from tonight, the heavy rain will shift southward into Nghe An and Hue, with expected rainfall of 30-60mm, and localized areas could see over 100mm.

According to Pham Phuong Chi, a meteorologist at the center, while rainfall in Thanh Hoa is expected to decrease, Nghe An will continue to experience heavy rain. The Central region is likely to see prolonged rainfall compared to the Northern region. Additionally, the southern provinces will also experience scattered rain and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 20-40mm.

Authorities have issued a warning for potential flooding in low-lying areas and urban regions, as well as flash floods in small rivers and landslides in mountainous areas. The risk of natural disasters due to heavy rain is classified as level 1, with a warning for landslides and flash floods in several provinces including Son La, Lao Cai, and Phu Tho.

In terms of river conditions, the Hoang Long and Buoi rivers have reached peak flood levels and are slowly receding. However, the situation remains critical, with ongoing monitoring required to prevent potential flooding in vulnerable areas.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
